Equipment scoop from the tours
It was not happenstance John Daly was wearing a TaylorMade hat and changed to the company’s rac TP irons at the Buick Invitational. Long John, who has been with Dunlop, is expected to sign an endorsement deal with the company. … Exalted doings: Brandt Jobe, who finished T-10 at Torrey Pines, added not one, but two degrees of loft (from 8.5 to 10.5 degrees) to his Callaway Fusion FT-3 driver last week. “Last year I had distress with not getting quite enough loft,” said Jobe. “[It's] fantastic when it’s real warm, but when it gets a small cold, heavy, damp, I [didn't] get quite enough spin on it.” … TaylorMade had nine players switch to its new r7 425 driver last week, including Tim Clark and Henrik Bjornstad, who also finished T-10. Sergio Garcia, meanwhile, went back to his original r7 Quad driver. … Titleist had a couple of prototypes at the Buick — the 906 F2 fairway wood (played by Lucas Glover, among others) as well as a 585 hybrid club (used by Davis Like III and others). … More Titleist: Buick runner-up José Maria Olazábal place Titleist’s 460cc 905R driver in play last week. … This should place to rest those comments that a 7-wood is a “woman’s” club: long-ballers Hank Kuehne and Scott McCarron each used a Callaway Huge Bertha 7-wood at the Buick.
